Message content is critical when determining the size of the LED sign you need. Take a few minutes to consider the type of messages you would like on your LED sign. Count the number of lines and characters you'll need to convey your LED sign message. The number of lines from top to bottom will determine the height of the LED sign. The number of characters displayed from left to right on each line will determine the width of the LED sign.
Images will help convey your message more effectively. You may want to consider a full color LED sign.

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a two-lead semiconductor light source. LEDs fit easily into an electrical circuit. But unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, they don't have a filament that will burn out, and they don't get hot. They are illuminated solely by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material, and they last just as long as a standard transistor.
The pixel matrix corresponds to the number of LED pixels that make up the display area. The matrix describes the number of pixels vertically by the number of pixels horizontally. For example, 16x80 (16 vertical rows by 80 horizontal rows).
The distance from the center of one pixel to the center of the next adjacent pixel is called center to center spacing or pixel pitch. The closer the pixels are to each other, the higher the resolution or density of the character or graphic image. Higher detailed images can be shown with higher resolution displays. Simply stated, the more pixels used in an electronic LED sign, the higher the resolution of that display and the image will be. The smaller the pixels, the more that can fit into the display area.
The tighter the pixel pitch, the closer a viewer can stand to your display and still have a great resolution. When displaying high resolution graphic images the lower pixel pitch will result in a sharper, more detailed image.
LED signs built with a tighter pitch will give you a better quality image -- but at a cost. The tighter pitch means a greater number of LED pixels are used for your display.
Direct Laptop Connection: Program messages from the base of the sign with your laptop. Walk up to your sign and plug into either a USB or Ethernet port to transmit your message. Requires going outside to your sign to upload programming.
Underground Ethernet Data Cable: Run CAT5 data cable from your editing computer or hub to the sign. Distance must be 300’ or less for standard Ethernet. This option allows you to program the sign from inside your building. Underground data cable is a simple and reliable option for trouble free communication.
Underground Fiber Optic Cable: Fiber Optic Cable is available at any length. While more expensive to initially install, Fiber Optic Cable offers several distinct advantages in communications including a distance of 3,000 feet from your PC or hub to the sign, increased bandwidth speed and carrying capacity, greater resistance to electromagnetic noise.
Dual Wireless RF: A wireless receiver is installed at the sign. A wireless transmitter is installed on an exterior wall of your building. CAT5 cable is connected from the transmitter to your PC or hub inside the building. Wireless communication is secure and reliable, and avoids the expense of installing conduit from your building to the sign for data cable. Today's wireless devices are capable of transmitting messages at distances of up to 2,500 but they require a clear line-of-sight between the transmitter and receiver.
Single Wireless with WiFi Connection: A receiver is installed at your sign that communicates with your existing WiFi network or a laptop supplied by Signs Plus. The distance limitation between your sign and WiFi network will vary depending on the strength of the WiFi signal provided by your network ranging from 300 to 2,500 feet.
