Call us at 800-848-4262 and let one of our experienced project managers help you identify the right sign for your location and budget. Here are a few factors to consider...

    Zoning

    • Sign  regulations may dictate the size and type of sign you're allowed
    • Are you allowed to have an LED sign?
    • Are there any specific restrictions or requirements for the use of an LED sign?
    • How many square feet of sign area is allowed?
    • Is there a minimum or maximum height restriction?

    Message Content

Message content is critical when determining the size of the LED sign you need.  Take a few minutes to consider the type of messages you would like on your LED sign. Count the number of lines and characters you'll need to convey your LED sign message. The number of lines from top to bottom will determine the height of the LED sign. The number of characters displayed from left to right on each line will determine the width of the LED sign.

Images will help convey your message more effectively. You may want to consider a full color LED sign.

    Viewing distance and traffic speed

When choosing an LED sign you need to ask yourself the following questions:

    • How far away is my audience from the LED sign? Look carefully at the location where your LED sign will be. How far away will the sign be from your target audience? Are they driving or walking or both? These are important factors to consider when determining the pixel resolution of your LED sign.
    • How fast is your audience moving when they pass your sign? Drivers traveling at 55 mph will have less time to read your message than drivers traveling at 35 mph. We'll help you determine what size sign you need.
    • How much time will your target audience have to read your LED sign? Drive past your location and determine the starting point and ending point of the visibility of your desired sign location. Note the distance from start to finish and the time it takes to travel that distance. Call us.  We'll be able to advise what size sign best suits your need.

    What's an LED?

A light-emitting diode (LED) is a two-lead semiconductor light source. LEDs fit easily into an electrical circuit. But unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, they don't have a filament that will burn out, and they don't get hot. They are illuminated solely by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material, and they last just as long as a standard transistor.

    What does pixel matrix mean?

The pixel matrix corresponds to the number of LED pixels that make up the display area. The matrix describes the the number of pixels vertically by the number of pixels horizontally. For example, 16x80 (16 vertical rows by 80 horizontal rows).

    Pixel Resolution / Pitch

The distance from the center of one pixel to the center of the next adjacent pixel is called center to center spacing or pixel pitch. The closer the pixels are to each other, the higher the resolution or density of the character or graphic image. The closer LED pixels are to each other, the higher the resolution or density of the character or graphic image. Higher detailed images can be shown with higher resolution displays. Simply stated, the more pixels used in an electronic LED sign, the higher the resolution of that display and the image will be. The smaller the pixels, the more that can fit into the display area.

    • Standard resolution displays are designed for average viewing (450 to 1,000 feet).
    • High resolution displays are designed for closer viewing distances (100 to 450 feet) and support graphics in greater detail.

    Why is pixel pitch important?

The tighter the pixel pitch, the closer a viewer can stand to your display and still have a great resolution. When displaying high resolution graphic images the lower pixel pitch will result in a sharper, more detailed image.

LED signs built with a tighter pitch will give you a better quality image -- but at a cost. The tighter pitch means a greater number of LED pixels are used for your display.

    • A pixel can be one or more LEDs.
    • A discrete LED is one individual diode.
    • LED clusters are multiple LEDs installed as a single pixel unit.
